Electrical Appliance Not Always Electric, Small Appliance is a BIG Business

Dishwasher not Drying Dishes

Specific failure symptoms include: 1) Dishwasher stops before the drying cycle. 2) The dishes are not dry when removed from the dishwasher.

When this problem is noticed, it is often not the fault of the dishwasher. The homeowner simply did not close the dishwasher door. A partially closed door will prevent the dishwasher from making electrical contact. When closing the door, make sure that the door shuts properly before starting the dishwasher.

Using Test Equipment

To avoid any incorrect readings when using the volt/ohmmeter always “zero” the ohmmeter scale (see your operating instructions) before making any continuity checks.

When making continuity checks with the volt/ohmmeter, always turn OFF the electricity at the circuit breaker panel. Live voltage checks made with the volt/ohmmeter in a continuity position will damage your volt/ohmmeter.

Check Heater Element

Turn the electricity OFF at the circuit breaker panel. Remove the lower panel. Remove the wires that are attached to the heater terminals. Using the volt/ohmmeter, set the meter on the RX-1 scale. Connect one probe from the volt/ohmmeter, set the meter on the RX-1 scale. Connect one probe from the volt/ohmmeter to one terminal of the heater element. Attach the remaining probe to another terminal of the heater element. The scale of the volt/ohmmeter should show full scale deflection or 0 ohms. If you do not get a continuity reading, the heater element is defective — replace it.

REPAIR PROCEDURES

Turn the electricity OFF at the circuit breaker panelbefore attempting to service the dishwasher. Exercise care when removing the dishwasher from its space as the dishwasher legs can easily damage the floor.

To Replace the Dishwasher Plumbing

When major plumbing problems are suspected, it is recommended that a qualified plumber be called to make the repairs. For additional information, refer to “Dishwasher Won’t Pump Out Watersection in this chapter.
