Specific failure symptoms include: 1) Water on floor near dishwasher. 2) During dishwasher cycle, water accumulates on left or right side of dishwasher lower panel.
To locate the cause of the problem, remove lower panel and check for broken plumbing drain connections, water inlet valve, broken or cracked hoses (drain and inlet), or drive motor and pump assembly motor seal. If a hose or a faulty part is found, replace it. Check that door is closing properly.
To avoid any incorrect readings when using the volt/ohmmeter to test a suspected dishwasher defective component part, always “zero” the ohmmeter scale of the volt/ohmmeter before making any continuity checks.
When making continuity checks with the volt/ohmmeter, always turn the electricity OFF at the circuit breaker panelbecause live voltage checks will damage the meter movement.
Remove the dishwasher lower panel and visually inspect the plumbing for water under the dishwasher. Vibrations made by the drive motor during the wash cycle can sometimes cause soldered connections in the plumbing to develop water leaks. To correct this problem, a qualified plumber should be called. Welding equipment and special skills are required to make these repairs.
Next, all hoses (drain and inlet) should be checked for damage. Hoses that have become brittle or cracked should be replaced with new ones. Also, hoses that show signs of hairline cracks should be replaced with new ones.
With the water supply ON, locate the water inlet valve. If water is noticed on the floor or around the tub cavity, check for a hairline crack in the valve body. A cracked valve body will cause a fine mist of water to be sprayed onto the drive motor, tub cavity, and other components. The water inlet valve will have to be replaced. If water droplets are visible on the floor or under the water inlet valve, it is possibly caused by a loose inlet hose clamp that is attached to the valve body for signs of water stains and rusty screws. If rust and water stains are noticed, the water inlet valve will have to be replaced. A final check should be made of the tubing that attaches to the water inlet port of the water inlet valve. Hand tools should be used to tighten nut or connections to avoid all water leaks.
Turn ON the electricity to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker panel. Turn the timer dial to a timer increment where the drive motor will start to run. Turn the timer knob to ON. Remove lower panel. Locate the drive motor and look for signs of water stains on or around the base of the drive motor. If stains are noticed, they are caused by a defective pump assembly seal. It is recommended that the drive motor be replaced since the pump seal has allowed water to enter the drive motor windings, which has damaged the motor internally.
