REPAIR PROCEDURES

Unplug the fridge power cord before servicing the fridge. Move the fridge out from the wall. Use extreme care when moving the fridge, because the fridge legs can tear or damage the floor.

To Replace Door Gasket

Using hand tools, remove the screws on all four sides of the fridge or freezer doors so that you can remove and discard the defective gasket(s). Before removing the old gasket, note carefully how the gasket is installed, because the replacement gasket has to be installed in the same position as the defective gasket that is removed. Before installing the replacement gasket, heat the rubber with a home hair dryer set on low heat. This will make the rubber more flexible,’ and easier to install on the fridge or freezer door. Install the replacement door gasket by mounting the lip of the gasket under the retainer plate.

NOTE: After a replacement gasket has been installed, it might be necessary to realign the door so that it closes properly.

To Replace Interior Light Switch

Appliances RenovationUnplug the fridge power cord from receptacle and remove the plastic breaker strips on the left and right-hand side of the fridge. NOTE: When removing the plastic breaker strips, heat them with a small 40-to- 60 watt light bulb for a minimum of 5 to 7 minutes. This will make the plastic more pliable and less susceptible to breakage. Never use high heat appliances such as the home hair dryer to remove ice and frost build-up from the plastic breaker strips. Excessive heat could damage the plastic breaker strips.

NOTE: When removing the plastic breaker strips, be especially careful when removing the one to which the light switch is attached. The cabinet wires that lead to the light switch can be jarred loose from the light switch and result in incorrect wiring.

Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry out the defective light switch. Remove the cabinet wires from the defective light switch terminals and discard the old switch.

Install the new replacement light switch by mounting it in the same position as the defective switch. Follow closely the instructions that are provided in the replacement light switch kit. If no installation procedure is provided, reverse the above steps.

To Replace Evaporator Fan Motor

Remove the plastic breaker strips on either the left-hand or right-hand side in freezer section of the fridge cabinet. Using hand tools, remove the icemaker from the fridge (if equipped). Remove screws that secure the evaporator food pan to fridge cabinet and remove food pan. Remove screws that secure the evaporator back plate to the evaporator and remove back plate. Finally, remove screws that secure the evaporator fan motor air diffuser and remove diffuser. Remove the harness wires that are connected to the evaporator fan motor and note the sequence as they were removed from the defective fan motor. Next, remove the screws that secure the evaporator fan motor to the fridge cabinet. Remove the defective evaporator fan motor and fan blade. NOTE: When removing the fan motor note its position carefully as it is removed because it is possible to install the part motor in the upside-down position. This error would cause inadequate air flow within the freezer and fridge compartments.

NOTE: When removing the evaporator fan motor, it is advisable to wear work gloves while working around the evaporator coil. The fins of the coil are razor-sharp and could cause cuts and abrasions to the hands.

After removing the evaporator fan motor, visually check the fan blade for warping, broken pieces, and cracks. If there are any defects which would affect the movement of air to the freezer and fridge sections, replace the fan blade. With a small screwdriver, remove the screws that secure the fan blade to the fan motor shaft and remove the fan blade.

Install the replacement evaporator fan motor or fan blade by following the installation steps provided by the manufacturer. If no installation instructions are provided, reverse the above steps.

To Replace Condenser Fan Motor

Remove the screws that attach fridge back. Locate the condenser fan motor on either the left- or right-hand side of fridge. Using hand tools remove screws that secure the fridge wiring terminal block to cabinet. Locate the wires that run from the condenser fan motor to the terminal block. Disconnect the fan motor wires. NOTE: It is important that the wires of the replacement fan motor be installed on the same terminals as the defective condenser fan motor.

Remove screws that secure the condenser fan motor to the fan motor bracket. Next, remove the condenser fan motor and bracket from the fridge cabinet and remove fan blade. NOTE: After removing the condenser fan motor, use a knife or screwdriver to mark the position on the fan motor bracket so that the replacement fan motor can be properly aligned. Improper alignment of the replacement fan motor could cause the fan blade to hit the fan motor bracket when the fridge is running.

Remove screws that secure the condenser fan motor to the fan motor bracket and remove condenser fan motor.

Install the replacement part condenser fan motor by mounting in the same position as the defective condenser fan motor that was removed. Follow instructions provided in the replacement condenser fan motor kit. If no installation steps or procedures are provided, reverse the above steps. NOTE: When reinstalling the replacement condenser fan motor, always make sure that the fan blade is not installed backwards.
