If the timer contact terminals show continuity and you find no voltage at the temperature selector switch, then you must make a continuity check for burned or broken wires from the timer assembly to the temperature selector switch. With the volt/ohmmeter dial set on the RX-1 scale, disconnect one wire from the terminal of the selector switch and attach a probe. Touch the remaining probe to the other end of same wire. If the wire you are checking is good, continuity (0 ohms) will be measured on the volt/ohmmeter.
Unplug washer power cord before servicing the automatic washer. Exercise care when moving the washer from its original position, or the washer legs might damage the floor.
To remove the water temperature selector switch, use hand tools to remove the screws that secure the washer console back panel.
Remove the selector switch knob from the switchby pulling forward. Remove the screws that secure the switch to the washer console and remove water temperature switch from the washer console. Most knobs that are used on selector switches are made of a plastic material and are push fit onto the switch shaft. However, this switch is a slotted shaft that serves as an alignment mark for the installer to use when a knob has to be replaced. If you do not align the knob onto the shaft of the replacement switch, the washer will not correctly fill the basket with water.
Remove the harness wires thatattach to the temperature selector switch terminals. Note the sequence in which they were removed, because they are to be reinstalled on the same terminals of the new temperature selector switch.
Install the replacement water temperature selector switch by mounting it in the same position as the defective part. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer or reverse the above steps.
Remove screws that secure the back of the washer console. Remove the timer assembly knob by unscrewing it counterclockwise, and remove the timer dial from the washer console. Remove the screws that secure the timer assembly to the washer console and remove timer assembly.
The homemaker may encounter two types of timers in automatic washers. The old-style timer assembly, is the most complicated to install because the timer wires must be placed individually on a separate terminal connector on the timer. Depending on the application of the timer, there might be as many as eighteen wires that would have to be installed. When removing wires from an old-style timer, note the sequence in which they are removed so they can be reinstalled on the same terminals of the replacement timer. The newer timer is the least complicated to install as the timer wires are not individually installed on the timer terminals. Instead, a connector block is used that attaches the wiring harness to the timer connector.
Install the replacement timer assembly by mounting it in the same position as the defective timer that was removed. Follow the instructions and synchronization procedures, if any that are provided in the replacement part timer assembly kit. If no installation steps are provided, reverse the above steps.
