Check Tub Seal

If you have determined that the water inlet valve is in working order, next check the outer tub post seal as the cause of the water leak. When diagnosing a water leak in a washer outer tub, you must first fill the tub with warm or hot water and run the washer for ten to fifteen minutes. When making this check, be patient because the washer may or may not leak the first time you check it. Look for water either at the front, left or right hand side or at back of the washer. Washers use a seal (or seals) around the tub center post. As hot or warm water enters the washer outer tub, the hot water softens the tub seal, which allows water to leak on the floor.If you diagnose a water leak as a faulty tub seal, you should call an authorized technician on the washer being serviced. NOTE: All water, whether it is fresh water or salt water, will always leave a water residue or stain on a component. If you notice stains, replace the suspected component because this will eventually cause a water leak and damage to the floor.

Check Washer Outer Tub

With the washer filled with either hot or cold water, remove the washer back panel and look for traces of water around the washer base plate assembly and washer chassis. If water is found in this area, the washer outer tub is possibly the source of the washer leaks.

A leaking outer tub can usually be repaired with a Fiberglas repair kit. Only minor rust holes should be repaired using Fiberglas. Follow the manufacturers instructions carefully when making repairs to the washer outer tub or other components using Fiberglas. Tubs that require excessive repair should be replaced instead. To replace the outer tub requires removal of the washer basket first.

Check Water Level Control

Another component that can cause water spillage is the water level control. Turn the washer timer to a cycle where the washer begins to fill. NOTE: Be certain that all water has been removed from the washer before running this test..

Set the load-size selector to the small setting on the washer console panel. As the washer is filling with water, check to see if the water cuts OFF at the proper level. If the water fails to cut OFF, the problem may be the water level control.

Before replacing the water level control, remove the washer console back panel and check the pressure hose to the water level control. Sometimes the hose works loose and causes the washer to overfill or operate erratically. Therefore, all you need to do is reinstall the water level pressure hoseto restore the washer to proper operating order.

If the hose does not correct the problem, a simple check can be made to determine whether the water level control is defective. Unplug the washer power cord and remove the plastic pressure hose that is attached to the water level control. Attach a small-diameter hose to the connection port on the water level control. Blow into the hose with the mouth and listen for a click in the switch. If there is no click, the water level control diaphragm is defective internally and must be replaced.

A suspected water level control can also be checked with the volt/ohmmeter. Before making this check, you will notice that on most washers there will be three terminals on the water level switch. Mark and remove the wires noting the wiring sequence as the wires are removed. On the outside terminal of the switch, place one probe of the volt/ohmmeter and the remaining outside terminal place the other probe. Set the volt/ ohmmeter to the RX-1 scale and with the hose attached, as described above, blow into the hose and you should see continuity (or 0 ohms) on the volt/ohmmeter.This would indicate that the switch internally is good. If no continuity (meter swing) is noticed on the volt/ohmmeter, the switch is defective and will have to be replaced.
