Formerly imperial ratings were used for fuses and circuit breakers, but the international Renard ratings have now been added and will supersede them.
Fuse manufacturers are still using the imperial sizes while circuit breaker manufacturers have mostly changed to the new ratings. An equivalence chart is shown above.
The miniature circuit breaker (MCB) is now widely used and overcomes all the problems associated with ordinary fuses. It is a small, sophisticated unit affording a much higher level of protection than an ordinary fuse. It is tamper-proof and the unit involved is easily identified when one has tripped (the switch moves to the ‘off’ position). Most importantly, MCBs cannot be reset if the fault still exists; this eliminates the foolish and highly dangerous practice of putting in the wrong fuse wire or cartridge just to get things ‘conveniently’ working again for the time being. This is closely related to the previous on D-I-Y power tools which, in some areas of operation, overlap. Some power tools have attachments for garden work. The use of electrically powered machinery requires the most scrupulous safety observance. In this and many other aspects, D-I-Y power tools and garden power tools are alike.
Like D-I-Y power tools, a brush gear motor is used to power garden equipment, whether mower, trimmer or weeder. Both mains and battery (rechargeable) versions are available. A similarity to vacuum cleaner motors has already been noted and this also applies to the garden equipment. This is evident from the illustrations of the hover mower. The motor has more than a passing resemblance to one of the cylinder cleaner motors featured on vacuum cleaners. As there are so many similarities, the operation of the motor is not described again here. However, information about common faults and maintenance is, of course, included. The aim of this manual has been to assist in the D-I-Y repair of your household appliances. I hope that you will now not only possess a greater understanding of how your appliances work, but also the knowledge to prevent many faults from occurring. Above all, I hope that armed with this information, you will feel confident enough to tackle most of the faults that may arise from time to time.
All this knowledge and new-found confidence will be wasted, however, if you cannot locate the parts that you require to complete the repair.
This would once have been somewhat of a problem, but in recent years the availability of spares has increased. This is for several reasons. Read the rest of this entry »
A tumble dryer is something very useful to have especially if your plagued with rain showers for days on end at certain times of the year, making washing day a night mare.
The tumble dryer is a must have when it comes to household appliances, it is safe and easy to use, making your life a whole less complicated.
If we look at were we started and were we are now it has been a great achievement. A man called Pochon Sampson’s thought of the tumble dryer in the 1800 in France, and called it the ventilator. It consisted of a metal drum with holes in it, you’d put your rung out clothes in it and rotated the drum over a fire by hand, and although this worked the clothes would dry there were a few bad points about this newly invented tumble dryer.
